Leona Bierria-Scott Friday, January 29, 1943 - Saturday, August 5, 2017
Leona Bierria-Scott, 74, passed away on August 5, 2017 at Research Medical Center. She was the first of six children born to the union of Ervin Sr. and Izola Ross on January 23, 1943 in Wilson, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by both parents; baby brother, Jackie; baby sister, Shon; grandson, Donald Bierria II; nephews, Derrick Ross and Brian Ross; and a niece, Trinity Ross.
Leona graduated from Central High School and continued her education to become a licensed nurse. She worked for the State of Missouri Mental Health Department for many years until retiring.
Leona accepted Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of Bishop Omega Shelton. The Lord blessed her through many medical conditions until He finally said “enough”, and called her home. She had a beautiful spirit and hardly ever complained about the issues she endured, even though there were many.
Leona carried many different names given to her affectionately by family members: “Shirley” given to her by her parents as a little girl, “Bey Bey” as she was called by her husband, “Xtra” by her niece Latonya, and “Special” by many other family members because she was always doing or saying something unusual to make them laugh. Then of course there was “Mama” by her son, and “Granny” and “Aunt Shirley” by others. She and her sister Tressie were known as “Thelma and Louise” because you rarely saw one without the other, and they were partners no matter what venture they decided to undertake whether it be shopping, eating out, going on the boat, Pokeno with friends or playing Spades at home on her computer. Leona will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 30+ years, Edward Scott of the home; one son, Donald Bierria, Jr.; three siblings, Ervin Ross, Jr. (Linda), Willie Ross (Ramona) and Tressie Smith; stepdaughter, Kmeal Winters; twelve grandchildren, Kashay Chatmon, Donald Bierria III, D’Lanod Lewis, Anthony Gant, Sarina Davis, Anonda Bierria, Zaday Christian, Dorminick Guthrie, Ameia Scott, Briannia Bierria, Christian Rucker and Daniel Duncan; five great-grandchildren, Lyrik Chatmon, Azariah Chatmon, Jeremiah Clark, Donald Bierria IV and Joseph Bierria; two aunts, Allela Bledsoe and Sarah Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends.
